General description of the collection: The Ritchie Garrison papers include a draft manuscript copy (1979) of an officer's memoir of his service on Efate Island, New Hebrides, 1942-1944, entitled, "A story of a South Pacific advanced base during World War II, Efate, New Hebrides: Task Force 9156 and II Island Command." He describes his duties including air-sea rescue, intelligence anti-submarine warfare, public relations and censorship. Also included is correspondence with Admiral Halsey.
